GranataPet’s Foursquare-Enabled Billboard

From:OPENFORUM

Pet food brand GranataPet earned worldwide attention last year for its billboard in Agenta, Germany. This wasn’t just any billboard, though. It was rigged so that if a consumer checked in on Foursquare, the billboard would dispense some of the company’s dog food. Someone from Granata’s ad agency filmed the billboard in action, and the video now has more than 50,000 views on YouTube (in various iterations).

What you can learn from this: In the social media age, a single ad or a single billboard can generate images, press and videos, but only if it’s clever enough.

WBGL Bookcase – Google

Nice one from Google. Needs more information! User reviews and more page selections would be fantastic.

Producers produce

Ok producers of the world. Seriously, if you’re not producing and producing well, then what the hell are you doing exactly?During my time as a producer I’ve run across all kinds of other weird and wonderful producers. There are the 2 kinds.

The wonderful producer. You are a blessing to your creative team. You take the time to figure it all out and map out all the details. You warn your creative teams about the possible risks they might encounter along their crazy and wonderful adventure. You have plan A, B, and C. But you secretly hope it never comes to that. You like sitting on the floor with your team as they blue sky amazing yet terrifying ideas. It makes you happy to be a part of it all. Happy to be part of that magic moment when that truly amazing nugget of an idea crystallizes. You make them happy. They make you happy. And then production begins. You experience more magical and terrifying moments along the path. Eventually you get to the end of the story. You’re creation goes off into the world and takes a life of its own. Bittersweet. But by now you’ve already got another bun in the oven. Another idea waiting to take flight.

The terrible producer. You see the timeline. You see the budget. You say no in every single sentence you use. Wow, how many times can you use that nasty little 2 letter word. Your creative team sees you coming and runs the other way. Why can’t you find them you wonder to yourself? You send a timeline out and hope that the deadlines are hit. What are you even making? You’re not sure and I’m not sure you even care. SOW, IA, UX. WHAT is that? WHY bother? Someone will figure all those things out and the job will get done. By the way, your creative team is in the corner. They’re hiding under their desks. Crying.

Producers of the world, an impassioned plea from me to you. If you’re going to take the title then you sure as hell better earn it.

Royksopp

This music was in a Bell television commercial…but the music video is oh so much better!

Contrex Contrexpérience

Great work from Contrex.

Nine women and one man work on ten exer-cycles to power up a spectacular building-size striptease show. At the crucial moment the crowd is congratulated: “Bravo! Vous avez dépensé 2000 calories” (You have burned up 2000 calories). So far the ad has had over 10 million views and counting!

eBay-Give a Toy Store

FINALLY! A good use of QR codes. Give a toy and make a kid happy. What’s great is that the toys also come alive when chosen. Love.

Adelphi Charter on Creativity, Innovation and Intellectual Property

Once in a while I chase after digital rights management and copyright legal information. I don’t know why. Just for fun. I suppose. This one caught my attention. It’s the Adelphi Charter.

The Adelphi Charter reads:

Humanity’s capacity to generate new ideas and knowledge is its greatest asset. It is the source of art, science, innovation and economic development. Without it, individuals and societies stagnate.

This creative imagination requires access to the ideas, learning and culture of others, past and present. And, in the future, others will use what we have done. Human rights call on us to ensure that everyone can create, access, use and share information and knowledge, enabling individuals, communities and societies to achieve their full potential.

Creativity and investment should be recognised and rewarded. The purpose of intellectual property law (such as copyright and patents) should be, now as it was in the past, to ensure both the sharing of knowledge and the rewarding of innovation.

…ok so now you’re hooked. Interesting huh? Read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adelphi_Charter

The Sound of Football

Amazing tracking technology and how it’s applied to a game of football for the visually impaired. A technologist talks about the process.
